New Delhi, Jan 22 (KNN) The government will soon roll out first of its kind in Indian history the ‘Size India’ project that would have country specific apparel size for the Indians, said Smriti Irani, Union Textiles Minister.

Addressing the 'Textile Conclave' at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, she said “Indian textiles and garments industry would soon get its own country-specific apparel size.”

"In the apparel export segment, one of the biggest challenge is that the UK has its size, the US has its size, and Europe has its size of measurement. But, India does not have it," the Minister said.

The government will look into the textile industry's apprehensions regarding embedded duties not being refunded fully and see that no tax is imposed on exports, she added.

Besides, government is also rolling out an initiative for estimating the domestic market consumption to take policy decisions for growth of domestic industry.

The textiles minister added that since 2014, Rs 35,000 crore has been invested in the textile and apparel sector on account of government support.

Irani congratulated Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for announcing the new textile policy in Gujarat wherein Rs 3 per unit electricity subsidy is offered to small power loom units and Rs 2 per unit to all other segments.
