IRF Seeks Removal Of Price Ceiling Under Delhi EV Policy

New Delhi, Jul 9 (KNN) International Road Federation (IRF) President Emeritus K.K. Kapila has urged the Delhi government to remove the price ceiling for incentives under the Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, arguing that all electric vehicles contribute equally to reducing pollution regardless of their purchase price.

IRF Seeks Removal of EV Incentive Price Cap

In a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Kapila said the existing eligibility criterion, which limits the 100 percent waiver of road tax and registration fees to electric vehicles with an ex-showroom price of up to Rs 30 lakh, discourages adoption in higher-priced segments.

He commended the Delhi government's efforts to promote electric mobility through financial incentives and the expansion of EV charging infrastructure, describing them as important steps towards cleaner transportation and environmental sustainability.

Price-Based Restriction Undermines EV Adoption

However, Kapila said restricting incentives based on vehicle price undermines the broader objective of accelerating EV adoption. He urged the government to extend incentives to all electric vehicles, irrespective of cost.

According to Kapila, every electric vehicle on the road helps reduce air pollution and carbon emissions, and these environmental benefits are not linked to the vehicle's price.

Calls for Policy Revision

He said removing the price cap would encourage wider adoption of electric vehicles across all segments, reinforce Delhi's leadership in green mobility and support the government's objective of creating a cleaner and healthier urban environment.

Kapila expressed confidence that the Delhi government would consider the proposal and introduce the necessary policy changes in the larger public and environmental interest.
