KVIC exports registers up trend in last three years, data from MSME Ministry reveals

New Delhi, Dec 19 (KNN) The exports from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) have registered a positive number, year after year in the last three years, Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Giriraj Singh informed Lok Sabha in a reply. 

The Minister said that the MSME Ministry is providing special incentives for the promotion and introduction of Khadi and Village Industries products in the markets across borders.

He further said that the KVIC had earlier sought the status of Deemed Export Promotion from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in an attempt to boost the exports, following which the exports have seen a rise.

Citing numbers from the previous three years, the Minister informed that the exports from KVIC in the fiscal 2014-15 stood at 12439.26 Lakh rupees with over 21 categories of items including spices, bio fertilizers, handmade paper and products, etc.

Following this, in the fiscal 2015-16, the exports amounted for over 14012.15 lakh rupees with India exporting items under 12 categories including handicrafts, leather, aromatic and essential oils etc.

Citing data for the year 2016-17, the value of exports stood at 26938.74 lakh rupees comprising of products from over 17 different categories including pottery item, katha, hair oil and other cosmetics

Listing the steps taken by the Ministry, Singh informed that the sector is actively engaged in participating in domestic international exhibitions as well as state and national expos.

Also Khadi India has sought to register Khadi as a word mark and Khadi India as a trademark for various products, he added. (With PIB Inputs) (KNN/ DA)
