Delhi High Court Expands Saturday Sessions To Boost Judicial Efficiency
New Delhi, Jan 17 (KNN) The Delhi High Court will function on the first and third Saturdays of every month following a decision taken by its Full Court at a meeting held on December 22, 2025.
The decision was communicated through a notice issued by Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj, which stated that it had been resolved by the Full Court that the first and third Saturdays of each month would be treated as court sitting days.
Last year, the High Court had already decided that every Bench would observe at least one working Saturday each month during 2025 as part of efforts to enhance judicial efficiency and reduce pendency.
However, the latest move has drawn concern from the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA). The Bar body said that while it holds the highest respect for the decisions of the Full Court and supports initiatives aimed at improving the functioning of the judiciary, it was neither consulted nor informed before the decision to add additional working Saturdays was taken.
The DHCBA’s response highlights the need for greater consultation between the Bench and the Bar on matters affecting court functioning and legal practice, even as the High Court seeks to optimise judicial working days.
