National Lok Adalat: Punjab & Haryana High Court Settles 388 Cases Worth Rs 17.87 Crore

Chandigarh, Sep 14 (KNN) The National Lok Adalat held at the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday disposed of 388 cases through mutual settlement, awarding a total of Rs 17.87 crore to the parties.

The Lok Adalat was organised as part of the nationwide initiative of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in coordination with the High Court Legal Services Committee. A total of 723 cases were listed before eight Lok Adalat benches, with most of the settled matters involving Motor Accident Claims.

Justice Suvir Sehgal, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee, supervised the proceedings.

Eight Benches Handle 723 Cases

Eight benches headed by Justices Sudeepti Sharma, Ramesh Chander Dimri, Pravindra Singh Chauhan, Rajesh Gaur, Puja Chopra, Sunish Bindlish, Divya Sharma and Ravinder Malik took up cases suitable for settlement.

Justice Sudeepti Sharma disposed of 64 cases involving settlements worth Rs 3.47 crore.

The National Lok Adalat is a recurring NALSA initiative aimed at reducing case pendency and promoting amicable dispute resolution through an accessible, cost-effective and expeditious alternative to prolonged litigation.

The High Court Legal Services Committee said it would identify more suitable cases for settlement in future Lok Adalats.
