SC Identifies 45,000 Cases For Settlement Under ‘Samadhan Samaroh’

New Delhi, Apr 27 (KNN) The Supreme Court of India has identified around 45,000 pending cases as suitable for settlement under its ‘Samadhan Samaroh’ initiative, aimed at promoting faster and amicable dispute resolution.

The initiative, titled Supreme Court Action for Mediated Adjudication and Disputes Harmonization Across Nation (SAMADHAN SAMAROH), commenced on April 21, 2026, and will culminate in a Special Lok Adalat scheduled for August 21–23, 2026.

The programme is designed to advance the vision of ‘participative justice’ and ensure doorstep delivery of justice by encouraging consent-based resolution of disputes pending before the apex court.

Special Lok Adalat in August

The three-day Special Lok Adalat will focus on resolving identified cases through mediation and mutual agreement between parties, reducing the burden on the judicial system while ensuring quicker outcomes.

The court has urged advocates, litigants and all stakeholders to actively participate in the initiative to ensure its success. It has specifically sought cooperation from lawyers in facilitating settlements.

Aim to reduce pendency

By resolving a large number of cases through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, the initiative seeks to significantly reduce pendency at the Supreme Court of India while promoting faster, cost-effective and mutually agreeable solutions.

The ‘Samadhan Samaroh’ marks a major push towards institutionalising mediation-led dispute resolution at the highest level of India’s judiciary.

Impact on MSMEs

The ‘Samadhan Samaroh’ initiative will benefit MSMEs by enabling faster and cost-effective resolution of long-pending disputes through mediation and Lok Adalats. 

Quicker settlements can reduce legal expenses, improve cash flow, and allow MSMEs to focus on business operations rather than prolonged litigation.
