Mandatory for firecracker manufacturers to cite composition-quantity of explosives: Sitharaman

New Delhi, Aug 1 (KNN) The firecracker industry comprising mainly the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), are mandated to mention the composition and quantity of explosives, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed Lok Sabha.

The Minister said that according to the Rule 15 (4) of the Explosives Rules, 2008, it is compulsory for the manufacturer to state the information for the consumers.

Sitharaman further informed that the effects of the fireworks on environment and human health are not mandatory to be mentioned on the label.

Citing the Government of India vide Notification G.S.R. No.64 (E) dated 27.01.1992, the Minister said that the possession and importation of any explosive containing sulphur or sulphurate in admixture with chlorate of potassium or any other chlorate,  is strictly prohibited.

Apart from this, at present the government is not considering banning any other chemical for the industry.

Sitharaman further said that illegal manufacturing of firecrackers is punishable with imprisonment for a term, which may extend to three years, or with fine, which may extend to five thousand rupees or both. (KNN/DA)
