Minister Terms Textile Sector As Employment Growth Engine

New Delhi, Jan 20 (KNN) Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh said that the domestic textile sector has transformed from a traditional industry into a modern, employment-intensive driver of economic growth.

The sector is increasingly emerging as a people-centric growth engine with significant potential for job creation, english daily BusinessLine quoted the minister as saying.

The Minister highlighted that initiatives such as PM MITRA Parks, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes and newly concluded Free Trade Agreements are expected to generate the next phase of employment growth in the textile and apparel sector.

According to the Minister, key growth drivers for the textile sector include rising domestic demand, increasing per capita textile consumption, a surge in exports supported by expanded market access through FTAs, and the adoption of technology and innovation to enhance productivity and strengthen value chains.

He said the evolving textile ecosystem reflects a shift away from its legacy status towards a future-ready sector focused on inclusive, sustainable and women-led growth, contributing to the broader objectives of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
