Ministry of Coal Auctions Six Coal Blocks Under 15th and 13th Commercial Coal Auction Rounds Across Four States

New Delhi, Aug 5 (KNN) The Ministry of Coal has successfully auctioned six coal blocks under the 15th round and second attempt of the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions, with the auctions conducted on August 3 and 4, 2026.

The two auction rounds were launched on April 17, 2026. Of the six blocks auctioned, four are fully explored and two are partially explored. Together, the blocks have geological reserves of approximately 1,503.93 million tonnes and a cumulative Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 11.62 MTPA.

The auctioned blocks comprise Dip Side Ext. of PKOC in Telangana; Dongeri Tal-II and Mandla South in Madhya Pradesh; Margo West and Margo East in Jharkhand; and Tara (Revised) in Chhattisgarh. Final bid offers ranged from 4.50 per cent to 37.50 per cent, against reserve prices of 4 per cent or 5 per cent.

The six blocks are estimated to generate annual revenue of around Rs 1,983.67 crore, attract capital investment of nearly Rs 1,743 crore and create approximately 15,710 employment opportunities.

Since the commencement of commercial coal mining auctions in 2020, the Ministry of Coal has auctioned 147 coal blocks with a combined production capacity of 377.974 million tonnes per annum.

Once operational, the auctioned blocks are estimated to generate annual revenue of Rs 48,215 crore, mobilise capital investment of Rs 54,315 crore and create around 4,89,552 employment opportunities across coal-bearing regions.
