Odisha MSME department to establish cluster for rasagolla makers, also get GI tag for products

New Delhi, Aug 3 (KNN) In a bid to accelerate the business of the traditional rasagolla, the MSME Department of the Odisha Government has announced formation of rasagolla cluster that would house the makers of the traditional sweet dish.

The cluster will have facilities including cold storage, raw material bank, quality check and control. This cluster will be located at Pahala region, that already has over 1500 units engaged in the making of the sweet.

Also the state government is approaching the Central Tool Room and Training Centre to get the Geographical Indication tag for the sweet dish. The application is in the initial process and the MSME Department aims to file a strong application to acquire the GI tag.

The application from the Odisha government comes shortly after the West Bengal government filing similar application to get the GT tag for its Banglar Rosogolla.

The GI tag acts as a brand tag signifying uniqueness of the product in historical as well as geographical terms. (KNN/ DA)
