ONDC Hits 5 Million Retail Orders in May

New Delhi, Jun 3 (KNN) The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a government-backed e-commerce network, reached a new milestone of 5 million retail orders in May 2024. This is up from 3.59 million orders in April.

ONDC also saw a single-day record of 200,000 retail transactions during the month. The network covers categories like food delivery, grocery, fashion and electronics.

For the first time, food delivery and grocery each accounted for 1 million orders in May.

However, food delivery's share of overall retail orders has dropped from 76 per cent a year ago to just 20 per cent last month.

In contrast, other retail segments like grocery, fashion, and home goods have seen strong growth on ONDC recently.

In May, grocery hit 1 million orders, followed by home/kitchen at 330,000 orders.

Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra remained the top states for ONDC transactions.

Small sellers made up 84 per cent of the 535,000 sellers on the network and contributed 56 per cent of orders.

ONDC's growth has been driven by expanding logistics support from partners like Ola Mobility.

The network aims to boost e-commerce penetration in India to 25 per cent over the next couple years.
