DGFT Imposes Price Floor On Virgin Multi-Layer Paper Board Imports To Curb Dumping

New Delhi, Aug 26 (KNN) The Indian government has established a minimum import price of Rs 67,220 per tonne for virgin multi-layer paper board, effective until March 31, 2026, according to an official notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

The regulated product serves multiple industrial applications, including packaging for pharmaceuticals, fast-moving consumer goods, food and beverages, electronics, premium cosmetics, liquor, book covers, and publishing materials.

The DGFT notification specifies that the minimum import price of Rs 67,220 per tonne applies to the cost, insurance, and freight value for imports of virgin multi-layer paper board.

Import transactions below this threshold will not be permitted during the specified period.

The measure is designed to address concerns regarding the dumping of paper board products from international markets, particularly Indonesia.

Industry sources indicate that the price floor mechanism aims to protect domestic manufacturers from unfair trade practices.

In July, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies, an arm of the commerce ministry, launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of these paper boards from Indonesia.

The probe was initiated following complaints submitted by domestic industry players.

The Indian Paper Manufacturer Association filed the formal application on behalf of the domestic paper industry, requesting the trade remedies directorate to investigate alleged dumping practices affecting the local market.
