PM-KISAN Scheme Extended To 2030-31, Cabinet Clears Rs 3.15 Lakh Crore Plan

New Delhi, Aug 1 (KNN) The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from 2026–27 to 2030–31, with a total financial outlay of Rs 3.15 lakh crore.

The scheme will provide financial aid to eligible farmer families through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring timely and transparent payments, according to the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.

Direct income support to farmers

Launched in February 2019, PM-KISAN offers Rs 6,000 annually to eligible landholding farmers, paid in three equal instalments directly into their bank accounts. The scheme uses Aadhaar-based authentication and digital verification to ensure efficiency and transparency in fund transfers.

Key achievements so far

The ministry noted that since its launch, over Rs 4.47 lakh crore has been transferred to farmers through 23 instalments. In the latest instalment, more than 9.49 crore farmers received over Rs 18,984 crore.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the scheme disbursed more than Rs 1.71 lakh crore to support farmers. Women farmers have also benefited significantly, receiving over Rs 1.06 lakh crore, with nearly one-fourth of all beneficiaries being women.

Impact 

According to an evaluation by the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO) of NITI Aayog, cited by the ministry, over 92 per cent of beneficiaries used the funds for agricultural purposes, while about 85 per cent reported higher incomes and reduced reliance on informal borrowing.

Between 2020–21 and 2025–26, the agriculture sector recorded growth, with cultivated area increasing by about 9.65 per cent, productivity by 10.53 per cent, and total foodgrain production by 21.18 per cent.
