Rajasthan Reviews Strategy to Restart More Than 6,000 Closed Mines

New Delhi, May 22 (KNN) With more than 6,110 mines across Rajasthan being non-operational, the state is exploring various options to resume mining activities.

The reopening of mines is set to create more jobs and generate additional revenue for the state.

Many districts have seen closure of mines due to a number of reasons including environmental concerns.

Among the districts, Ajmer recorded the highest number of closed mines at 1,049, followed by Jodhpur with 1,018 and Jaipur with 1,011 inactive mines,according to TOI.

Other districts reporting shut mining leases include Bhilwara with 882, Rajsamand with 709, Bikaner with 424, Bharatpur with 401, Udaipur with 318 and Kota with 298 inactive mining leases.

A senior official said the state government has initiated efforts to prepare a revival strategy for closed mining leases amid the worsening situation.

 A recent meeting of senior mines department officials discussed measures to restart inactive mines and address administrative hurdles affecting operations.

The mines department has sought detailed reports from all districts to identify the reasons behind mine closures and explore solutions for resuming operations at the earliest.
