Revised Quality Standards for Caustic Soda mandatory, step to boost domestic industry: Ananth Kumar

New Delhi, Oct 18 (KNN) The  Ministry for Chemicals and Fertilizers in a statement announced make revised quality standards for Caustic Soda mandatory for both domestic manufacturers as well as for imports.

Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananth Kumar informed about the latest move by his Ministry.

Kumar said that the revised quality standards for Caustic Soda mandatory for both domestic manufacturers as well as for imports is being done with an aim to give a boost to the domestic industry. This move by his Ministry is in line with the government’s Make in India project, he added.

According to the statement, the revised quality standards, compliant with Bureau of India Standards (BIS) specifications, would necessitate the industry to produce caustic soda using the modern and more energy efficient membrane based technology.

Mandating compliance to revised BIS specifications will allow superior grade caustic soda to be produced and imported in the country which would be beneficial to human health and environment, the statement added.

In an assuring note to the Alkali industry, The Minister assured that the Government is in favor of continued support for growth of the Alkali Industry in India, on lines that are congenial to health and environment. (KNN/DA)
