740 women artisans trained under MCY in FY23; 33 employed in coir units so far
New Delhi, Dec 22 (KNN) In the current financial year about 740 number of women have been trained under Mahila Coir Yojana (MCY) across India and out of them 33 got employment in units.
As on December 19, 2022 there are total 100 women beneficiaries in Tamil Nadu, amounting Rs 6,00,000 as the total stipend paid to them, informed Union MoS for MSME Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma in a written reply in Lok Sabha on Thurday.
In Maharashtra there are 160 number of women beneficiaries, amounting to Rs 9,60,000 as the total stipend paid.
Among the various skill development programmes under Coir Vikas Yojana, the Scheme Mahila Coir Yojana (MCY) envisages provision for training only to women artisans.
MCY is being implemented by the Coir Board for the empowerment of women artisans in the coir sector with an aim to provide self-employment opportunities to rural women artisans in regions processing coconut husk and provides scope for large scale employment as well as improvement of standard of living of rural women artisans.
During the current year 2022-23, an amount of Rs 234 lakh has been allocated for MCY.
At present, there are 740 number of women beneficiaries in the country and an amount of Rs 92.96 lakh released for this Yojana so far for the current year. (KNN Bureau)
