This was stated by Minister for social justice and empowerment, Thawar Chand Gehlot, while inaugurating a National Symposium for “CSR Practitioners: Effective Implementation for Higher Impact” here today under aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Minister indicated that the proposal is being seriously deliberated upon within the ministry and will be launched with necessary approvals by March 2015.
The government has realized that the persons born with disabilities have high IQs and are also blessed with natural skills that need to be nursed with care, as they can no longer be ignored and thus the proposed scheme is necessary to make the differently abled persons be self-reliant by imparting them with skills that are essential to make them self-employable, said the Minister.
With the proposed card in their possession, the PwDs would be entitled to enjoy loan facilities at concessional rates from various financial at cooperative institutions, besides availing benefits of central government sponsored schemes as well as such entitlements launched by states, indicated Gehlot.
The central government would also take care of PwDs of far flung areas such as Leh and Ladakh and other interior locations by formulating for them other schemes as well, so that their quality of life is improved and they are made self-dependent, he said.
The central government is also organizing a Paralympics sports event exclusively for PwDs and youth so that their hidden sport skills, strength and caliber which until now fell in public domain is well recognized, said the Minister pointing out that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has already earmarked Rs 18 crore for organizing the proposed event.
In their addresses President and Vice President of PHD Chamber Sharad Jaipuria and Mahesh Gupta called upon the corporates not to deem CSR as burden on them, rather come forward to propagate it with their physical and financial contributions as Corporate Social Responsibility cannot be undertaken by the government alone.
Others who participated in the event are Chairman, Task Force on CSR Committee of the Chamber, Vinod Bansal and its Executive Director, Saurabh Sanyal. (KNN/ES)
