New Delhi, Sept 26 (KNN)  As much as 40 per cent of  procurements made by automotive supplier, JBM Group is from micro, small and medium enterprises, said President (Corporate Sourcing) JBM Group, B B Gupta, adding that their experience of working with the MSME sector has been very good.

Speaking on the sidelines of the II Indo-German SME Forum held in the national capital on September-22 and 23, Gupta said that the JBM Group is highly dependent on MSMEs for their procurement needs.

“It is the cluster approach which helps us to work with them and it enhances their capabilities,” he said.

However, Gupta is of the opinion that the supply chain management could do with some improvement, as he pointed to the importance of skill development.

“What we see in the MSME sector is that they are unable to do what they can do because of the lack of skilled manpower.  Manpower is a big challenge for the next 10 years.  To improve the capability of their unit, they need to bring in trained people,” Gupta said, adding “MSMEs will play a very big role in the future of automobile component manufacturing.”

He acknowledged that MSMEs face serious issues on the payment front.  “The government is also conscious of the fact.  They need to take care of this and give some serious consideration to it.  There is certainly an effort in this regard.”

JBM Group is a tier- 1 supplier to the automotive OEM (original equipment manufacturer) industry and caters services to esteemed clients that include Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Fiat, Ford, General Motors Corporation, Honda, Hero, JCB, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Renault, Nissan, TATA, Toyota, TVS, Volvo-Eicher, Volkswagen and many more.

The JBM Group with turnover of USD 1.2 billion has a diversified portfolio to serve in the field of automotive, engineering and design services, renewable energy and education sectors and has an infrastructure of 35 manufacturing plants, 4 engineering and design centres across 18 locations globally.

The II Indo-German SME Forum was organised by GIZ jointly with the Office of DC MSME, the Ministry of MSME, SIDBI, the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and its Knowledge partner Sequa.

It also provided learning and best-practices and opportunities for Cluster Internationalisation and an understanding on the German Model of Industry-Academia linkages.  (KNN/ES)
