NASVI demands compensation for riot-hit street vendors

New Delhi, Feb 29 (KNN) National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) on Saturday urged the Delhi government to compensate street vendors for the losses during riot in North East Delhi.

Street vendors lost their pushcarts/thelas and they have been deprived of their source of livelihood and deserve a compensation for the same, said NASVI.

''We request Delhi government to compensate the street vendors- a sum of Rs 20,000 for the burnt thelas and Rs 10,000 as working capital. In addition, a

compensation of Rs 1 Lakh (a sum of Rs 50,000 for infrastructure and Rs 50,000 for working capital) must be awarded to small businesses,'' NASVI added.

The vendor's body further said that they are in dire need of financial support in order to get back on their feet. The relief package for Delhi violence victims must extend its support to the street vendors as well as small businesses.

''We request that all riot victims be given assistance under the 'Farishtey Scheme' and hopefully it aids them to restore their work/businesses,'' they said.

NASVI also sought monetary relief of 15 days equivalent to minimum wage for daily wage earners.

''Since, most daily wage earners are unable to move out for their livelihood because they fear loss of life, we also urge the government to provide monetary relief of 15 days equivalent to minimum wage,'' NASVI said.
