Night curfew should not hinder Industries, workers: KASSIA

Bengaluru, Apr 10 (KNN) Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) has urged the State government to take steps to ensure the industries are not adversely affected due to night curfew.

''The night curfew announced in Bengaluru and several other districts in Karnataka to arrest the surge in corona cases will put a spanner in the functioning of industries operating in night shift, and the state government must also take concurrent steps to ensure the industries are not adversely affected,'' said KASSIA in a statement.

It further said that factory workers working in night shift should be allowed to commute to their workplace on the basis of showing their ID, apart from transporters transporting raw material to the factories if they have relevant documents to show as proof of the same.

The police personnel should be advised not to harass or trouble any industries operating in the night, given that the state economy is already in the doldrums and any further slide could take the economy many years to recover even to a position of normalcy, KASSIA said.

“Industries in Karnataka are equally concerned about the second wave but any steps that the government must indeed take to control the situation should also be accompanied by steps that avoid putting a halt to the working of industries,” K B Arasappa, president, KASSIA said.

“We should remember that experts have warned that the country could return to a situation like the Stone Age if the government resorts to harsh measures like it did last year,” he added.
