49,913 acres identified for Hyderabad ITIR

Hyderabad, Oct 22 (KNN) The proposal to set up Andhra Pradesh Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) around Hyderabad is being actively considered by the Central Government and may soon be cleared.
 
The proposal for the project which is likely to attract investment of Rs 2.19 lakh crore came for discussion at the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), last month.
 
Sharing details about the proposal, State Minister for information technology and communications, Ponnala Lakshmaiah was present at a brainstorming session with executing agencies such as APIIC, HMDA, GHMC, ORR, HMWS&SB, APTRANSCO, Hyderabad Metro Rail, APPCB, etc.
 
During the session, the concerned departments made exhaustive presentations on how to implement the Hyderabad ITIR in fastest mode.   
 
An area of 202 sq kms and around Hyderabad has already been identified for the purpose.
 
The workshop was actively attended by more than 150 participants besides the Government functionaries, STPI, VSEZ and representatives from IT/ITES/EHM Industry, Developers, IT SEZs, IT Infrastructure providers, Industry Associations such CII, NASSCOM, ITsAP, FAPCCI, ESC, CREDAI, APREDA, AVCGI, etc.
 
The Government of India approved a Policy Resolution on May 29, 2008 to set up Information Technology Investment Regions (ITIRs) in different States/UTs to promote investment in IT/ITES and Electronic Hardware sector.
 
As per the policy, GoI will provide the necessary viability gap funding for external physical infrastructure through existing schemes.  Thereafter, the ITE&C Department submitted a proposal to GoI on March 9, 2010, for creation and development of ITIR in an area of 202 sq kms in Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Area.  (KNN/MSR)
