55 lakh workers to be benefitted from minimum wages

New Delhi, Oct 29 (KNN) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that  around 55 lakh workers in the city will be benefitted from the increased minimum wages that have been notified by the Delhi government following the Supreme Court's recent order.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Kejriwal informed employees will also get dearness allowance for the months of April to September, besides a Diwali bonus of one month's salary.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had allowed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the national capital to notify the 37% hike in minimum wages for workers.

Minimum wages have been revised to Rs 14, 842 per month from Rs 8,632 per month for unskilled labour; Rs 16,341 from Rs 9,542 for semi-skilled labour; and 17,991 from Rs 10,471 for skilled labour.

He also claimed that Delhi pays highest minimum wage in the country.

The government has removed 1,373 contractors so far for not paying minimum wages to their workers said Kejriwal.
