80% reservations for Goans in Industrial employment cannot stand the test of law: Goa CM
Panaji, July 26 (KNN) Making a law that mandates industries in Goa to employ 80 per cent of their workforce from the local population would violate the constitution, said Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa.
The Goa government cannot make such a law as it law would violate the Constitution, said Sawant, when members of the House drew the government’s attention to the Andhra assembly passing Bill for 75% reservation for locals.
He stated “We have to accept the Indian Constitution and 80 per cent reservations for Goans in Industrial employment cannot stand the test of law.”
On the Bill passed by Andhra government, he said, it is only the Bill which has been passed by the Assembly and will be struck off by the court.
In addition, he mentioned that the State is in the process of training the youth as per the industry requirement through department of Skill Development.
“We will try to solve the issue as soon as possible so that the maximum employment is given to locals,” he said.
