AAP to form govt in Delhi; Industry expects better facilities

New Delhi, Dec 23 (KNN) With the Aam Admi Party (AAP) vowing to fulfil its election promises, the industrial units in the national capital are expecting much needed improvement in the basic infrastructure like roads, water and electricity in the industrial estates.
The AAP will form the government in the national capital with the outside support of the Congress, ending days of suspense after elections in the capital threw up a hung assembly.
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place on December 26 at the Ramlila grounds, according to media reports.
“We will deliver whatever assurances we made in our manifesto. It (manifesto) was prepared after wide consultations, and a lot of thought went into it,” he told the media. “Moreover, the people of Delhi are expecting much more from us, and we will perform,” AAP said.
In its election manifesto, the AAP head promised that if voted to power, its government will ensure that Delhi's industrial estates are provided basic facilities like water, electricity and roads.
“All Delhi’s industrial estates are in a miserable condition. There are no proper roads or water and electricity facilities. Our government will ensure that these estates are provided with basic facilities. Employment can only increase if the industry progresses,” the election manifesto of AAP had said.
The party led by social activist turned politician Kejriwal, further said in its manifesto, “Today many policies of the government, its rules and law promote corruption. Starting and running an industry in Delhi today is impossible. All policies will be changed and procedures for giving industry licences will be simplified.
Further, “Training will be provided to the youth for starting new businesses. Loan and other facilities will also be given to them,” the AAP manifesto added.
On the problems faced by the traders, the new party had said, “Traders always find themselves in a web of complex bureaucracy and corruption. The rules are such that it is next to impossible to carry on business strictly in accordance with the law.
Large majority of the traders want to conduct their businesses honestly and without being hassled,” the manifesto added.
Industry association, including FISME, expressed hope that industrial units in Delhi will get a better deal.
The AAP, which is offering itself as an alternative to both the Congress and the BJP said the party, would not allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail if voted to power. It also promised to simplify the value added tax (VAT) structure in Delhi to ease tax compliance for traders.
Kejriwal's party, which had been raising concerns over increase in electricity bills, promised to bring it down by 50 per cent by ordering an audit of accounts of distribution companies (Discoms).
Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit congratulated Kejriwal and said he should now fulfil the promises he made.
"We had said Congress will give outside support. My good wishes are with Arvind. AAP must fulfil the promises made to the public of Delhi," Dikshit said.
Dikshit also said that it is a misconception of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that the Congress is giving them unconditional support, and added that her party will only provide support from outside. (KNN/SD)
