The strike resulted in power generation plunging to 983MW against the normal generation of 4,700 MW on Monday. Therefore, all discoms including Vizag-based EPDCL, Tirupati-based SPDCL, Warangal-based NPDCL and Hyderabad-based CPDCL had no alternative but to depend on the 3,738 MW power supplied from the Centre other than some power taken from private sources.
The strike that began Sunday morning was called by employees’ unions of AP Transco, AP Genco and also four state discoms which demanded the implementation of the pay revision commission (PRC) recommendations, media reports said.
Districts affected by the strike were Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East and West Godavari districts where nearly 3000 units had to halt operations.
According to reports, the authorities had to halt power to industries to be able to supply power to the domestic sector. Units in those areas received only lighting load which was inadequate for production.
Only after the management assured employee unions that their concerns would be presented to the new governments of the two states, was the strike called off late Monday night. (KNN/ES)
