Adani Firm Partners With NMDC And Brazil's Vale To Develop Iron Ore Blending Facility At Gangavaram Port

Amaravati, Feb 23 (KNN) Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), through its subsidiary Adani Gangavaram Port Limited, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NMDC Limited and Brazil-based Vale S.A. to develop an iron ore blending facility at Gangavaram Port.

The agreement was signed at the India–Brazil Business Forum Summit in New Delhi.

Under the MoU, the three companies will jointly develop and manage an integrated iron ore blending and value-addition ecosystem within a dedicated Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Gangavaram Port.

The facility is aimed at strengthening the iron ore export value chain on India’s East Coast and improving efficiency in mineral processing and trade.

The development is expected to increase the port’s capacity to up to 75 million metric tonnes (MMT) and position it as a key hub for iron ore exports from India and the region.

Infrastructure and Operations

“This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to building resilient, future-ready infrastructure that strengthens India’s position in global supply chains,” said Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director & CEO, APSEZ.

“By integrating high-quality mineral logistics with advanced port capabilities, we are supporting industry requirements while contributing to the country’s broader economic growth, he added.

The collaboration includes setting up fully mechanised berths and cargo handling systems designed to accommodate Valemax vessels — among the world’s largest Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOCs) — with a carrying capacity of up to 400,000 tonnes.

The project will also cover yard management, blending operations, and vessel loading and unloading to improve supply chain efficiency.

According to APSEZ, the initiative is intended to support industrial requirements while contributing to India’s broader maritime and export infrastructure.
