Andhra Pradesh Unveils Green Hydrogen Valley Declaration With 5 GW Manufacturing Target
Amaravati, Jul 24 (KNN) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu released the state's Green Hydrogen Valley Declaration-2025 on Monday, setting an ambitious target to establish 5 GW of electrolyser manufacturing capacity by 2029.
The announcement was made in Amaravati as part of the state government's comprehensive strategy to position Andhra Pradesh as a leader in green hydrogen innovation and sustainable industrial transformation.
The initiative aims to establish Amaravati as a Green Hydrogen Valley and create India's largest ecosystem for green hydrogen production, research, and application.
The declaration was issued jointly by senior government officials, global industry leaders, scientists, and policy makers.
It leverages the state's abundant renewable energy potential and extensive coastline to position Andhra Pradesh as a central hub in India's transition to a green economy.
The roadmap is built around four core objectives: accelerating green hydrogen production and infrastructure development, promoting domestic manufacturing and innovation, building technical and research capacity, and fostering global partnerships with sustainable governance models.
Key targets outlined in the declaration include achieving 1.50 million metric tonnes per annum of green hydrogen production by 2029.
The state plans to significantly reduce green hydrogen costs from the current Rs 460 per kilogram to Rs 160-170 per kilogram by the target year. Supporting this goal is the planned development of a 25 GW Green Energy Corridor for transmission infrastructure.
The declaration emphasises the creation of an indigenous supply chain, with 60 per cent of electrolyser components and storage solutions to be manufactured locally by 2030. At least three production units will be established to support this manufacturing ecosystem.
Innovation will be supported through a dedicated Rs 500 crore fund targeting 50 start-ups focused on advanced materials, high-strength carbon fibre, and hydrogen storage cylinder development.
SRM University-AP has been designated as the state's nodal agency for research and development activities.
The university will host cutting-edge testing facilities and collaboration platforms, while annual summits will monitor progress and facilitate knowledge exchange among stakeholders.
A multi-stakeholder Green Hydrogen Valley Advisory Board will be established with multiple working groups to identify optimal technologies for green hydrogen production, derivatives, testing facilities, and storage solutions.
