APERC Chairman calls upon energy sector to offer electricity to industries in AP at affordable prices

New Delhi, Feb 6 (KNN) There is a need to provide electricity to industries in Andhra Pradesh at the lowest possible prices, said Justice G. Bhavani Prasad, Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC).

He called upon the energy sector to offer electricity at affordable prices to consumers in general and to industries in particular.

Speaking at the inaugural session of 2-day long Andhra Pradesh Energy Innovation Summit-2019, Prasad said, Due to firms’ inability to pay mounting electricity bills, several ferro-alloy companies were shutdown in Vizianagaram district and around 30,000 families were got affected.

He said “The time has come for us to see that zero-cost supply of energy to the consumer is achieved, and hopefully that day should not be far off. But before that day arrives, we need to provide electricity at the lowest possible prices and the discussions at the summit should be in that direction.”

Addressing the gathering, Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Ajay Mathur, he asserted that the LED programme across the state has reduced by about 2,800 million units of consumption every year.

He said AP is one of the two states in India to have a mandatory energy conservation building code.
