Balanced growth for agriculture and industry, Puducherry fully prepared for GST : Kiran Bedi

New Delhi, May 17 (KNN) The Government Is looking for ways to ensure a balanced growth for both the agricultural sector as well as the industrial sector in Poducherry, also there a mechanism for the upcoming GST is well in place Kiran Bedi, Governor, Puducherry, said.

She said that special importance is being given to these two sectors considering the role these sectors play in employability and contribution to the economy.

Bedi also spoke of the upcoming Goods and Services tax (GST) saying that her Union Territory is all set for the roll out of the new tax regime. There is proper IT infrastructure in place that will supplement the needs of both consumers as well as the entrepreneurs in the region, aiming towards a robust economic growth.

She also informed that her government has outlined a package of incentives to tackle the offsets and the fears of GST regime. The package will also take care of the logistics overhead that might incur once the new tax policy is implemented.

Commenting on the need for development in agricultural sector, she said that a farmer centric approach is being adopted by the government to bring in sustained improvement in the production as well as in the farmers income.

The Minister in her address also spoke of the government’s vision of giving capital expenditure without affecting the ongoing welfare schemes.

Talking about the GSDP figures, the minister said that the Gross State Domestic Product of Puducherry is being estimated at 29,557.38 crores for this financial year. This figure is 11.4 per cent more than the figure from the previous year.
