Bengal Govt set to claim IPR for various items including Sandesh, Muslin clothes and more

Kolkata, Oct 17 (KNN) West Bengal is all set to claim intellectual property rights for various items the state is famous for including - sweet dishes Sarpuria and Sarbhaja; Sandesh; Muslin clothes; and Ghurni clay dolls of Krishnanagar.

Bengal Government planning to claim patents over their sweet dishes Sarpuria and Sarbhaja, asserting that these humble delicacies originated in the state’s Krishnanagar.

They also want to secure the state’s rights over another famous sweet delicacy ‘Sandesh’, made of molasses (called Nalen Gur in Bengali).

Bengal government is likely to apply for the GI (Geographical Indication) of these delicacies. GI tag is like a brand name granted to a product because of its geographical uniqueness.

Bengal will also claim Muslin clothes as its own. Similarly, the govt wants to claim patent for Ghurni clay dolls of Krishnanagar.
