CAIT urges govt to extend lockdown period to contain COVID-19

New Delhi, Apr 9 (KNN) The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has urged the Centre to extend the lockdown period by 15 days i.e. up to April 30th in the interest of the country.

The trader's body wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged for an extension.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CAIT''s National General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal said the confederation has undertaken a survey with prominent trade leaders of all states of the Country and have come to the conclusion that during these troubled times, "it would be in fitness of things, if the current lockdown period is extended up to April 30, 2020, so to negate any prospect of further spreading of COVID-19".

Despite the lockdown will hit small and medium scale traders, yet in the interest of the country, they are well prepared to support the extended period, the release added.

CAIT said the trading community across the country was ready to follow any decision taken by the government in letter and spirit.

India may extend the ongoing national lockdown by 15 days, Modi told lawmakers on Wednesday. The final decision on extending the 21-day lockdown that is set to end on 14 April will be taken after a meeting with all chief ministers on 11 April, leaders who attended the meeting said.
