PRSU-Raipur to begin 30-day mechanical equipment training programme from July 15
Raipur, July 3 (KNN) The state government-led Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU), Raipur has introduced a 30-day training programme on the mechanical equipment available at the USIC.
A fresh batch will start on July 15 as the University has transformed its 50 year old and obsolete University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC).
It was set up under the UGC's 5th Five Year Plan in 1978, and transformed it into a skill development centre for both in-house students and outsiders.
Speaking about the latest developments, PRSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Sachchidanand Shukla said, “The oldest and largest state-run educational institute in the state, PRSU, is the only one to have USIC when the School of Studies in Physics was started in 1978. With this innovative measure, we have become the first and only university in Chhattisgarh to introduce a 30-day training programme on the mechanical equipment available at the centre, with a fresh batch starting on July 15.”
“Moreover, the move will also support the skill development programme of the Government of India,” he added.
Only 20-25 universities across the country were approved for the USIC in the early 80s. Most of the USICs have shut down with the upgradation of technology, said the vice-chancellor.
“When I visited the USIC here, I saw all the mechanical equipment was working, except for one. I decided to use the centre, which was once meant for the university, in the larger interest,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
There is a target of providing training to three-four batches in a year, he said. (KNN Bureau)
