Chinese imports hampering govt’s Make in India program: UPCMA

New Delhi, Dec 29 (KNN) Raising concerns over the impact of Chinese imports in the domestic market, United Cycles and Parts Manufacturers Association appealed for a more domestic oriented approach to be taken by the central government.

Also with the reports surfacing that the Chinese companies are being allowed to set up industries in India, if done so, this will add to the woes the association said.

A delegation from the association also met the Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Giriraj Singh to raise similar concerns.  The delegates in the meeting demanded ban of Chinese imports to strengthen the Government’s Make in India program and to uphold the domestic industry comprising of a fair share of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Raising sector specific concerns, the delegation apprised the Minister of the rising steel prices and its impact on the local cycle industry.

The already drowning bicycle industry due to hike in steel prices will soon collapse if no strict measures are undertaken by the government, the delegation informed.

The association further suggested that government should consider framework to encourage import of technology for manufacturing cycles in the country. (KNN/MG)
