CODISSIA to meet Defence Minister proposing defence manufacturing

New Delhi, Dec 22 (KNN) In an attempt to get into the defence manufacturing chain, the Coimbatore District Small Scale Industries Association (CODISSIA) will be submitting a proposal to the Defence Ministry.

Talking to KNN, Sundaram V. President of CODISSIA informed that the region has immense potential of being associated with the larger defence manufacturing chain.

Informing of the prospects, Sundaram informed that there is an upcoming Industrial estate in Coimbatore that spreads over 400 acres. The estate would be ready early April following which it is likely to host over 300 MSME units that all can collaborate and make products for the defence sector.

The proposal is to set up a public limited company comprising a group of members from the association that will manufacture the products required by the Army, Sundaram added.

As of now the proposal is in the draft phase and once ready, the association is likely to approach Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to take it forward.

Earlier Sitharaman during an event in the national capital said that the defence sector is keen at collaborating with the MSMEs to make supplies for the sector. She further said that the possible collaboration is to add impetus to the government’s flagship Make in India program. (KNN/DA)
