Coimbatore to host international textile expo in Feb

New Delhi, Aug 3 (KNN) Coimbatore will host an international textile expo next year in the month of February to showcase the capability of Tamil Nadu in textile sector, said O S Manian, Handloom and Textile Minister.

In this regard, Manian had a preparatory meeting on Thursday with textile industry captains and experts as the state government is hosting such kind of event for the first time.

The state government has allocated Rs 2 crore for the conduct of global exhibition to showcase the capability of Tamil Nadu in the textile sector and also find new markets, said Manian.

The fair would also help in bridging the production-sales gap as there was a big mismatch, he added.

On the 5 per cent GST on handloom, he hoped the Centre would bring it down soon.

About fixing wages for laborers, Manian said that the state government would soon fix the pay of handloom weavers coming under the cooperative sector, while the revised pay for workers in the power loom sector would be decided upon through talks between the district Collectors and labor unions.
