Commerce Minister asks MSMEs in J&K to submit their loss report

Srinagar, Dec 16 (KNN) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has asked Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) to submit their Rs 15,000-crore loss report to Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and the Centre for “further deliberations.”

KCCI president Sheikh Ashiq was among the several representatives of traders in Jammu who met Goyal in the winter capital of Jammu on Sunday. This was first ever meeting between the traders and the BJP central leadership was initiated by the Union Territory administration of Jammu and Kashmir.

Hussain said the minister listened to the trade representatives patiently and asked them to send a copy of their report to him as well.

“I feel your [traders’] pain. There is no denial that losses must have happened. Any report on losses should be submitted to the State government. The Centre will also look into it,” Goyal told the traders.

“I informed the minister about the estimated losses which are to the tune of Rs 15,000 core over the last four months,” Hussain said after the meeting.

He further said the KCCI has prepared a report on business and job losses caused by the disturbances after the Centre revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and divided into two union territories.

“We informed the minister that all the business sectors have been hit and industry leaders from all the sectors have given written representations in this regard to the chamber. A comprehensive report will be submitted to the Lieutenant Governor very soon,” he added.

Meawhile, Goyal also asserted the development of industrial sector in Jammu and Kashmiris on the top priority of the Narendra Modi-led Government.

“Industry is an important component of plans formulated by the Union Government for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”, interacting with the industrialists, the Union Minister said.

He also assured that all the issues raised by the industrialists will be appropriately addressed in a time bound manner.

The meeting also saw, several industrialists of Jammu, Naveen Chaudhary, and Principal Secretary Industries & Commerce Department.
