Compliance of Andhra Pradesh Energy Conservation Building Code mandatory for commercial building approvals

Vijayawada, Dec 23 (KNN) Compliance of Andhra Pradesh Energy Conservation Building Code (APECBC) is now mandatory for all multiplexes, hospitals, hotels and convention centres irrespective of their built-up area, said the state government.

All commercial buildings, other non-residential buildings, that have a plot area of more than 1,000 square meters or built-up area of 2,000 square meters and multiplexes, hospitals, hotels and convention centres, irrespective of their build-up area, shall comply with the APECB code to get building approvals in urban local bodies.

Speaking at the valedictory function of Energy Conservation Week-2019 here on Friday, Energy Secretary Srikant Nagulapalli said that the AP Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department has issued a memo (No.2975494/M1/2019) upgrading the GO on ECBC 2017.

The state government took the decision as part of implementation of energy efficiency methods to save power. A circular memo has been issued upgrading GO ECBC 2017 by municipal administration department, enabling the ECBC clause in online building permission application platform.

''A study conducted by the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) found that nearly 30 per cent energy can be saved through adoption of ECBC,'' he said.

The Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) is coordinating with municipal administration department. APSECM has empaneled 34 third party assessors to check ECBC compliance in all upcoming commercial buildings.

Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) commissioner, P Lakshmi Narasimham, said that growing population and rapid urbanisation have resulted in constant increase in energy demand.
