Contribute towards costs of upgrading CETP before deadline or MPCB will cut water supply: SC tells Tajola industries
Navi Mumbai, Nov 11 (KNN) The Supreme Court has ordered the 300 plus industrial units in Taloja region of Raigad district in Maharashtra to contribute towards cost of upgrading a central effluent plant. Failing to do so, the water supply to these industries will be cut post deadline.
An order issued by the Supreme Court last week makes it compulsory for them to do so.
The apex court has asked the Maharashtra Industtial Development Corporation (MIDC), the state's industrial agency, to inform the industrial units about the pending amount within a week of issuance of the order.
The 324 industrial units in Tajola have to make the payment within three weeks.
If they fail to do so, the MIDC has been authorised to initiate action as per law and to direct the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to cut off water supply to these industrial units.
According to a report, the cost of upgrading and increasing the capacity of the plant works out to Rs 74 crore.
While the Centre contributes 50%, the state 20% and the MPCB 5%, the balance 25%-or Rs 18.50 crore-has to chipped in by the industries.
So far, industrial units have contributed Rs 1.25 crore.
