New Delhi, Aug 13 (KNN) PVC traders at the Tikri Kalan border in west Delhi were supported by  the Congress Party in their protest against "harassment " by civic authorities and the police.

There are about 5000 small plastic traders in the area, who are in the business of buying and selling plastic.

“We just buy or sell the waste plastic.  In no ways do we do anything with would cause pollution or harm to the environment,” said Raju Solanki, Proprietor of Rama Peer Plastic from Tikri Kalan.

The traders have been raising the issue of being harassed by the local police and the municipal corporation limited.

“The police and the authorities unnecessarily harass the traders here. We only collect waste plastic and sell them, but still they confiscate our tempos,” he added.

“The traders and workers, who do business at the Lal Dora area of the village, should not be displaced as they await allotment of shops by DDA,” Solanki agitated.

Yesterday, the traders had staged a protest outside the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung’s office here against the harassment. They have also submitted a memorandum to Jung.

“They have assured that they will look into the matter as soon as the ongoing Parliament session is over,” he added.

Tikri Kalan DDA industrial market area was allotted to the PVC dealers by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) after a fire broke out at the Jwalapuri plastic scarp market on June 6, 1995.

The DDA invested Rs 40 crore for the entire construction of Tikri Kalan market, according to a media report. (KNN/SD)
