Delhi’s moderate air quality days has increased over past 5 years: DPCC Chair

New Delhi, Mar 8 (KNN) Delhi Pollution Control Committee’s (DPCC) Chairperson Sanjeev Khirwar said that the number of good, satisfactory and moderate air quality days in Delhi has increased over the past five years.

He said this while speaking at a two-day event on dialogue towards clean air” organised held by CAQM, central government’s panel on air quality and the Union environment ministry on Monday.

DPCC recommended various measures to curb pollution such as understanding multiple reasons such as its location, extreme weather conditions and transboundary movement of pollution responsible for making Delhi one of the most polluted cities in the country.

Khirwar emphasised on focusing on strong monitoring of air quality and its forecasts. “A tab on the measures taken and strong research, called it essential to understand the sources,” he added.

Delhi has been ranked as the world’s most polluted capital in a new report that placed India as having the third worst air quality out of 106 countries in 2020.

The average concentration of PM 2.5 in Delhi in 2020 was 84.1 µg/m3, the highest among the capital cities of 92 countries mentioned in the World Air Quality report by Swiss technology company IQAir.  (KNN Bureau)
