New Delhi, May 31 (KNN) Deadly dust storm in the national capital yesterday has led to snapping of power supply in several areas of the city for as many as 18 hours and brought industrial estates to a near halt situation.

Yesterday evening, a powerful dust storm had struck the city at around 4:58pm throwing normal life out of gear, severely damaging the entire power transmission network in Delhi and neighbouring states; crippled road traffic, metro services, flight operations and water supply.

“The small shops in some areas were badly affected,” he added.

The vendors in the open markets like Sarojini, Lajpat, Janpath also suffered losses as there were no footfalls yesterday evening due to which they had to shut their shops early.

“Due to yesterday’s dust storm, there were not many customers in the market due to which we were not able to sell out daily stock,” said owner of a dairy cake shop in Sarojini Nagar Market.

“The bakery items which we make on everyday basis, were all wasted yesterday,” he added.

A small canteen owner in the Safdarjung Enclave area, said that his light utensils, food items and other items in the shop were all destroyed due to the storm.
“If I earn Rs 2, 500 - 3, 000 in a day, yesterday I suffered a loss of at least Rs 4, 500 - 5,000,” he said.

Yesterday, all major power transmission lines of the Northern Grid through which Delhi receives power from other states tripped in the storm.
