Dilli Haat seeks for more handicraft artisans

New Delhi, March 8 (KNN) Ministry of Textiles is extending an opportunity to new handicraft artisans from across the country to display their unique products at Dilli Haat, national capital’s open aircraft bazaar and famous tourist destination.
Artisans of various art pieces such as jewellery, handlooms, candles, bags, jute, wood and paper products, toys and home décor have been asked to submit their applications by March 20 to the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts).
Since its inception in March 1994, Dilli Haat has been a showcase of traditional Indian culture. The popular open-air market and food plaza draws both domestic and international tourists who are keen to observe the variety of cultural traditions in India.
Stalls inside the complex that is popular for its inimitable ethnic wares will be allotted on a fortnightly basis from May 1 to October 15. Selection will be made through a draw of lots on March 25.
Artisans already registered with the Marketing and Service Extension Centres or other field units of the office of the Development Commissioner are eligible to apply for the stalls by submitting Rs 5000 towards security.
However, the applicants should not have participated at Dilli haat during the last six months from the slot.
Unlike the traditional weekly market, the village Haat, Dilli Haat is permanent where stalls are allotted to craftsmen to sell their products directly; while ensuring they receive due returns for their skill and effort. (KNN/SD)
