DPCC directs industries discharging effluent to adhere to new standards

New Delhi, Mar 8 (KNN) Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has ordered the industrial units discharging effluent to strictly follow the new norms pertaining to water quality.

It is the first time that the body has finalised an inlet standards for Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs).

These standards have been set in an effort to identify industries that release a high pollution load.

Individual units tend to have a prescribed standard, however there is no fixed standard for cluster of industries.

The new norms will help in giving a clear perspective to detect industries releasing high pollution load.

For about two years, Delhi’s 13 CETPs for 17 industrial areas, have been failing to meet the permissible water quality standards.

In July 2021, DPCC imposed a total environmental damage compensation of Rs 12.05 crore on 12 CETPs for not meeting environmental parameters and served them notices again later in the year. (KNN Bureau)
