DPCC warns Okhla industries to strictly follow the Air and Water norms

New Delhi, Jan 5 (KNN) Delhi Pollution Control Committee recently took on the industrial units in Okhla and directed them to strictly comply to the pollution norms, failing which their units would be closed.

The National Green Tribunal has passed various directions to curb the water pollution and air pollution.

DPCC has been issuing notices from time to time asking the industrial units to aplly for getting mandatory consent to establish or operate the units.

“…There are large number of industries/ units that are operating without obtaining mandatory consent to establish/ operate under the said Air & Water Acts from DPCC and thus violating the provisions of said Acts,” DPCC had said in a letter to the industry associations in Okhla.

The DPCC warned the industries that strict actions would be taken which include sealing, closing and disconnecting the water and electricity supply, if the norms would not be followed.

Talking to KNN, President of Okhla Factory Owners’ Association, Udesh Babal, said, “We have directed all the members of our association to strictly follow the norms. And as of now, we can assure that all the units in the Okha industrial area are following the DPCC directions and have also taken necessary steps.”

According to section 19(1) read with section 21 of Air (Prevention and Control Pollution) Act, 1981, no person without previous consent of DPCC shall establish or operate any industrial unit.

And, according to section 25/26 of Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, no person without the previous consent of DPCC shall establish to take any steps to establish ant industry, operation or any treatment and disposal system or any extension or addition thereto, which is likely to discharge sewae or trade effluent into a stream or well or sewer or on land, bring into use any new or altered outlet for the discharge of sewage or begin to make any new discharge of sewage.
