New Delhi, Sept 1 (KNN) Very soon the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses in the national capital will have free wi-fi facility, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement on Monday.

"Delhi government will provide free Wi-Fi facility in DTC buses as soon as possible. In this connection, we are in touch with some big companies," he said while addressing thousands of DTC employees at an awards ceremony at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here.

Transport Minister Gopal Rai and DTC managing director CR Garg were also present.

Last week, Kejriwal had discussion with the leading Internet and telecom sector companies, including Google, Facebook and Ericsson, held regarding the Delhi government’s ambitious city-wide free Wi-Fi project last Friday.

Kejriwal also announced the allowance of contractual DTC bus drivers, who drive up to 2,250 km in a month, would be hiked from Rs 4 to Rs 5 per km, while those who drive more than 2,250 km in a month would be provided Rs 6 per km instead of the earlier allowance of Rs 5 per km.

"With this, on an average, the salary of contractual drivers will be enhanced in the range of Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,500 per month," he noted.

Out of 43 DTC depots in the capital, the chief minister felicitated the 10 best performing depots at the awards function. (KNN Bureau)
