Pune, Jan 8 (KNN)  A common effluent treatment plant to cater to small scale industries will soon come up in Pimpri Chinchwad of Maharashtra.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) will build the plant jointly, said a report from Times of India.

The municipal corporation will soon prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for its construction, it said.

According to reports, the civic body has taken a lead to bring together the industries and other organisations to set up the treatment plant.

MIDC will allot three acres of land in Bhosari for the project at a concessional rate, while MCCIA will construct the plant, run and maintain it.

Further, a private agency will prepare a DPR, conduct a survey of the industrial areas, find the number of industries that dump untreated effluents and suggest the technology to be used to treat effluents.

This will provide data to decide the capacity of the proposed plant.

There are around 350 industries in Pimpri Chinchwad city that do not treat effluents, which will be treated once the common effluent treatment plant is ready.  (KNN/ST)
