FGI rubbishes reports claiming migrant workers leaving Gujarat after hate attacks

New Delhi, Oct 16 (KNN) Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI) has rubbished all media reports which stated that migrant workers from states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh have left Gujarat in the wake of violence following an alleged rape incident that happened in state.

Speaking to KNN India, FGI, Secretary General, Nitesh Patel said that workers from Gujarat are not migrating to their native place rather they are going for vacation to celebrate festivals which has been negatively portrayed in the media by saying that they are migrating out of fear of hate attacks in the state.

Patel said “There is no sentiment, feeling or thought in minds of business or citizenry of Gujarat against any citizen of India in Gujarat.”

He said that industries and societies have protected and treated all working or residing nearby as their family and continue to do so.

“We condemn any movement or rumour in the matter of migrants in Gujarat and request all to work for growth of trade and industry in India. All Indians are United and one,” he added.

However, media reports claimed that because of all this violence thousands of Hindi speaking migrant workers have left the state due to which state is facing labour shortage impacting industrial output.

According to reports, the affected workers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were scared after attacks and the sense of fear is still there, despite the normalcy in the situation.

Even so, according to industry estimates, output is likely to be down 15-20 per cent in the run-up to Diwali.

The industries affected are auto-ancillaries, pharma, ceramics, cotton ginning, fertilisers and chemicals and construction, in regions around Sanand, Sabarkantha, Patan and Aravali, quoted media report.
