Former Union Minister from Jammu appeals Governor to prevent costly properties from turning junk due to closure of sick industries

New Delhi, July 25 (KNN) Raising concerns over the shutting down of industrial units in Jammu, former Union Minister Chaman Lal Gupta has appealed the Governor NN Vohra to prevent costly machinery and other properties worth crores from turning into junk.

He said that thousands of workers had been rendered jobless due to closure of industrial units.

The most significant units which have shut down so far include the silk factory, willow factory, resin factory, joinery mill, leather factory, Kalakot thermal plant and others.

In a statement, Gupta recalled that during Maharaja’s times, forest products and silk were the major source of state revenue.

But unfortunately, these have dried up and nobody is there to take care of the machinery and other costly properties, including large tracts of valuable land, he pointed.

He also stressed putting an end to the growing menace of narcotics.
