Amritsar, Feb 17 (KNN)  Having identified various heritage buildings for conservation, Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board (PHTPB) is planning to begin work to restore Gobindgarh Fort in Amritsar.

The fort occupied a unique place in the Indian military history. Built in 1760, it was called Bhangian Da Kila (Bhangis was one of the twelve Sikh misles) and was used to keep treasures of various kings and store large amount of grains and provisions for a 12,000-strong army.  After Partition of India, the fort was used to provide temporary shelter to a large number of refugees from Pakistan.

PHTPB now seeks bids from specialists and consultants with previous experience in such matters to carry out the restoration work.

The consultants would have to conserve and protect the South West Bastion, Temple, Keeler Gate and Rampart wall connecting the Keeler Gate with the South West Bastion.  (KNN/ES)
