Govt grants in principle approval for 15 new airports

New Delhi, Dec 17 (KNN) Government has given in principle approval for setting up new airports in 15 cities including the industrial towns of Kannur, Durgapur, Shimoga.

According to an official release, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, K C Venugopal informed the Rajya Sabha today that the Government has granted "in principle" approval for the setting up of the Greenfield airports across the country.

The airports will be set up in 15 cities - Mopa in Goa, Navi Mumbai, Shirdi and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Hasan and Shimoga in Karanataka, Kannur and Aranmula in Kerala, Durgapur in West Bengal, Dabra in Madhya Pradesh, Pakyong in Sikkim, Karaikal in Pudducherry and Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh.

The Government has a vision to establish low-cost small airports which may include existing airports also for providing connectivity to the tier-II and tier-III cities in the country including in the state of Jharkhand, the release added. (KNN/SD)
